A photo-op in 2024. A betrayal in 2025. Nevada’s workers deserve more than staged empathy.

Las Vegas, NV – Congressman Steven Horsford says he supports eliminating taxes on tips—but when it came time to act, he stood with his party and voted against a broader Republican-backed bill that would have given immediate relief to thousands of Nevadans in hospitality and service jobs.
During the 2024 campaign, Horsford appeared alongside Vice President Kamala Harris at a local restaurant kitchen in Las Vegas—a carefully staged photo op meant to portray solidarity with working-class Nevadans. Surrounded by dough, rolling pins, and kitchen staff, they projected empathy for tipped workers.
But the moment didn’t age well.
In the background of that now-iconic photo, a sign reads: “WE CAN’T FORGET THE CAUSE BEHIND THE CAKE”—a message evoking themes of social justice, second chances, and respect for everyday workers. Yet the real cause has been long forgotten by Horsford and Harris.
Photo Ops vs. Real Policy
The message may have been sweet, but the follow-through was bitter.
When President Trump and Senate Republicans delivered on a bipartisan “No Tax on Tips” bill—passed unanimously in the Senate—Horsford and House Democrats rejected it. Despite his own “TIPS Act,” which claimed to champion the same goal, Horsford refused to support the version that actually had a chance to pass.
The reason? It didn’t come from his side of the aisle.
This is exactly the kind of partisan double standard that working-class Nevadans are tired of: say one thing in front of the cameras, do another when it’s time to vote.
Nevada Deserves Better
In a state where tips are not a luxury—they’re survival, voters remember.
They remember who showed up for a photo.
And they remember who didn’t show up for them when it mattered most.
If you truly honor the workers behind the cake, then stand up for them in Congress—not just in campaign kitchens.
